How to Reach

The nearest airport is Kishangarh (approx. 45 mins away), but flights are limited. Jaipur Airport is the major hub (3 hours away). The best way is to take a train to Ajmer Junction, which is well-connected to Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai. From Ajmer, Pushkar is a scenic 30-minute drive via taxi (approx. INR 600-800) or a cheap local bus from the Ajmer bus stand.

FAQs

Is alcohol really banned in Pushkar?
Yes. Pushkar is a holy city, so alcohol and non-vegetarian food are strictly prohibited within city limits. Some shady places might offer you spiked drinks or 'special lassi' (bhang), but it's illegal and often unsafe. If you want a drink, head to Ajmer or stay at a resort outside the municipal limits.
How do I avoid the priest scam at Pushkar Lake?
When you approach the lake, men with flowers will try to hand you petals. Do not take them. If they insist on doing a puja for your family, politely but firmly say 'No, thank you' and keep walking. If you do sit for a puja, agree on a small donation (INR 50-100) beforehand. Do not let them guilt-trip you into paying thousands.
Is Pushkar safe for solo female travelers?
Generally, yes. The backpacker vibe makes it quite safe, and you'll meet plenty of other solo travelers. However, dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees) to avoid unwanted stares, and avoid walking alone in the dark alleys or the outskirts of the desert at night.
How many days are enough for Pushkar?
2 to 3 days are perfect. You can cover the Brahma Temple, the lake, Savitri Temple, and do a camel safari in two days. The third day is just for cafe hopping and shopping in the bazaar.
What is the Pushkar Holi like?
It's an absolute riot. The main square (Varah Ghat chowk) turns into a massive trance party with flying colors, torn shirts, and loud music. It's incredibly fun but gets very rowdy. If you're claustrophobic or don't like aggressive crowds, avoid it.
Can we rent scooties in Pushkar?
Yes, renting a scooty or a Royal Enfield is very common and cheap (around INR 400-800 per day). It's the best way to explore the outskirts, visit Ajaypal Temple, or ride around the Aravalli hills.
Is the Camel Fair worth the hype?
Yes and no. It's a photographer's dream and culturally fascinating, but it's also incredibly crowded, dusty, and expensive. Accommodation prices triple, and the town is chaotic. If you love culture and chaos, go. If you want a peaceful getaway, avoid November.
How do I reach Pushkar from Delhi?
The easiest way is to take the Vande Bharat or Shatabdi Express from New Delhi to Ajmer (takes about 5-6 hours). From Ajmer railway station, you can take a taxi (INR 600-800) or a local bus (INR 30) for the 30-minute drive over the hill to Pushkar.
